The Outback Railroad Association was formed in 2014 by railroad employees and vendors to promote safety and training to shortline railroads in the United States. By the sharing of ideas and information, we will strive to make our railroads safe places to work!

Settlement Talks Continue as ASLRRA Challenges

FRA’s Training Standards Rule 


In September, 2016, for the first time in its 101 year history, ASLRRA filed an action challenging the rule in the United States Circuit Court for the District of Columbia. Settlement discussions with FRA quickly ensued, and ASLRRA and FRA agreed to have their subject matter experts work together to see if they can agree on an alternate training program which would be simpler and less costly to small railroads and which would still meet the basic training requirements FRA expects.

According to the FRA, trespassing along railroad rights-of-way is the leading cause of rail-related deaths in America.
